Within a community of diverse Native scholars and educators, Chemawa Indian School students enjoy a unique living and learning experience. Our residential educational program includes services, resources and opportunities to foster student growth and development. Safety, health and support are Chemawa’s top priorities, and our campus nurtures holistic well-being. Student life incorporates various programs to serve the student's individual needs through academic services, physical education, social-emotional teaching and language/cultural education.

Dorm Life

Living on campus encourages a sense of pride and community. Students meet, study, socialize and rest in our comfortable living spaces. Social gatherings include academic clubs, arts and culture, wellness meetings, and community-organized activities. Like-minded students with shared interests form bonds and friendships while they live in the dormitories. Supportive staff members serve as residential advisors to ensure safety and guidance.

Dining and Nutrition

Chemawa Indian School provides students with well-balanced breakfast and lunch services prepared daily by our friendly cafeteria staff. Our meal plans ensure energy and focus throughout the school day for greater academic performance. We strive to maintain a clean and orderly cafeteria in which to eat meals, cultivate fellowship and host special food-related events or cooking classes. The cafeteria accommodates various dietary restrictions.

Culture

Various Native communities and cultures are proudly represented at Chemawa Indian School. Our educational program brings us together as one while embracing the diverse heritages of the entire school community. Chemawa has a unique and inclusive culture of traditions, ceremonies and events. Students are encouraged to express, explore and embrace their identities.

Community

Joining student clubs and organizations is a major part of the Chemawa student life experience. Participating in clubs is a great way to make new friends and develop leadership skills while pursuing your passions. We offer a range of clubs and groups that build and strengthen the school community, including the science club, debate team, International Students Association, chess club and coding club.

Chemawa’s extracurricular activities offer students additional learning opportunities outside the classroom. On-campus events like movie nights, social gatherings and talent shows are routinely scheduled, while off-campus excursions like trips to the city, nature hikes and cultural events are also available.

Afterschool Support

Students seeking additional help with their classwork or homework can make arrangements with teachers, staff or peer tutors. We aim to ensure that each student gets support to keep pace and stay on track to graduate with their classmates.

Athletic / PE Programs

Our sports competitions and physical education programs develop students’ bodies, minds and spirits. During the sports seasons, the school community unites in support of its student-athletes. Students join teams and establish friendships and must maintain good grades and attendance to continue participating. Our fitness center allows students to preserve quality health by improving their strength and conditioning. Chemawa Indian School students’ confidence and overall vitality are enhanced through participation in athletics.
